LIBRARY : JNV, HADAGARH, KEONJHAR AT A GLANCE

 Our library with  15230    numbers of documents is ready to serve you with a smile ,like a dedicated attendant ,who is ever ready to serve you ,with a smile when the glass is found empty. In the present arena the term library has gained the status of an “information centre” whose prime duty is to provide right information to the right reader at the right time, instead of limiting its status merely into issue and return of books. Seen in this milieu, our library is trying its best to disseminate right information near its right reader at the right time.

 

I.  Collection:-

 

Books: The library is having 15230 numbers of books.

 

 

Newspapers subscribed by the library:

 

Presently the library is subscribing all total 38 numbers of newspapers

 

Magazines subscribed by the library    (29      numbers)

II.Activity

 

1. Library Periods-In library period books are issued weekly . Two library peroids are allotted for each class starting  from class vi to xii.  The  students are  asked  to write the review  of the books they issued from the  library. The best review of the week from each class is given a chance to be delivered in the morning assembly by the particular child , which motivate them to read the book thoroughly and also to write the review.

2. Issue of Books- Apart from Library Periods ,books are issued to students in the free periods of library.Open  Access system is provided to the reader to satiate his search for his piece of information. Books on demand were kept in a separate table for easy search and a separate register is maintained for this and an earnest effort is made to fulfil the demand of the  students as early as possible before the demand became obsolete.Those who have demanded first are served first.                `    

3. Display Board- Important notice regarding competitions, current news, persons in news, important articles from magazines and newspapers are displayed in the board.                                                                                                                                            `     `                                                                                        

4. Readers Club-A “reader’s club” has been formed to attract the students to develop his/her creative potentiality by developing his/her reading habits, speaking power and inculcating in him/her the spirit to learn. Students are taught to prepare scrap books of different subjects like sports, thought, science and technology, literature, writers and important personality etc. The teachers can take the help of these reference materials in their daily classroom activities and these are also very useful for preparing the morning assembly activity and are absolutely current in nature and are valuable reference  resources. The readers club members are trained to help the students to  deliver their best in the Morning Assembly Activity . The readers club members are made the incharges of  various activities conducted by the Library in the Morning Assembly.

5. Ready reference services:-under this activity a separate register is maintained where important articles matters covering varied subjects are mentioned with an abstract keeping in eye with interest field of the teachers. For this teacher’s demand is kept in the register along with information with anticipation. This will be very helpful for the teachers to keep track with the current trend and they can use it as a reference tool.

6.  Abstracting Service:- Abstract of important articles from magazines , Newspapers are prepared  for the teachers  according to their subject field  and so that they will be able to  keep in touch with the latest information in their respective subjectfield , which will help them to advance their classroom transaction.A separate register  is being maintained for this.

    

      7.       Morning Assembly Presentation-In morning assembly, weekly once a book review is made by the librarian, so as to;,make the staff and students aware of the type of the books available In the library and their perfect utility. In turn, I can say ,this is a very viable method of book display. Also important articles from newspaper and magazines covering National and International affairs are reviewed in the morning assembly by the librarian so as to widening the horizons of the reader. Students are also prepared to present current topics in Morning Assembly, other than Saturday

             

      7.    Book exhibition:- Small exhibitions are organized in the library in connection with the birthdays of national leaders or national festivals and important days of celebration and observations.

     

      8.    New arrivals:-New arrivals are kept in a separate rack and are taken to the classrooms during library periods and in the terrace during remedial time, depending upon the suitability of time and space so as to make them aware about the type of books the library has. In this context book jackets are displayed in the classrooms.

     

           

      09.   Competitions:-various competitions are organized on different occasions in order to extract their creativity.

     

      10.     Newspaper Clipping Service:- Also provided for awareness among  the students regarding important dates, days and news made for public interest and news relating to social issues.

      11.   Other morning assembly activity:-

 

7.1 Book of the month:-

     

      A book is choosen for a month and is delivered in every Tuesday of Morning Assembly for that month. As a result, students along with teachers, get a chance to know in detail the thought contents of the book and its utility, which ultimately inspires them to issue that particular book. And if at all, they are unable to issue that book, they can at least know about the book and its subject. Which satisfies the Library Law that, Information is for all and is must.

     

 

7.2   Gandhi Kal Bhi Aaj Bhi:-

 

      Every Wednesday of the Morning Assembly has been fixed for presentation of life incidents of “Mahatma Gandhi”,the architecture of modern India. The Library Readers club Members in an order present some important aspects from Gandhiji’s life, in order to shape morality among the young mass.

 

7.3   Biography of Legends:-

 

      Friday of every week has been fixed for the life history /biography of a legendary  figure . Which of course, a sure   way to instill positive force in the young minds.

 

7.4   Books on life skill:-

 

      Every Thursday of Morning Assembly has been fixed for a “Book on positive Thinking” and Chapter wise presentation is given by the Library Readers,s Club Members, So as to mould the student,s personality to lead a better and happy social and personal life in the days to come.

 

7.5  Story Telling:-  A viable means of counselling and a moral booster for the young minds.In each class, from 6th to 12th, if time permits, compulsorily, I used to tell them stories and also encourage the students to tell stories in the Library class.

 

7.6. Book Review: Every saturday   morning assembly has been fixed for book review by the students and by the librarian also.every month three Saturday reserved for the students for Book Review  and once in a month by the librarian.

 

III. LIBRARY MANNERS:

     

      Please keep silence in the library. This will not only help you in your studies but will also keep a congenial atmosphere in the library.

 

      Pulling a book from the self by its pack will damage its binding. If the self is packed, PUSH BACK WITH YOUR FINGERS THE TWO BOOKS ADJACENT TO THE ONE YOU NEED. It will then be easy for you to pick up the book you want without damaging its binding.

     

 

 

      In case you have to leave your table, while reading a book, please do not leave the book open on the table; do not put the book with its face down; nor should you insert your notebook or pencil in between the pages and close the book ask for a bookmark.

     

      Marking the book with the pencils or pens spoils its appearance.

     

      Do not fold the pages.

     

If you find any defect in the book you have taken out for reading or borrowing please; bring it to the notice of the librarian to avoid further inconvenience to yourself.

 

      Tearing pages and cutting pictures from the books render useless for future readers who may be your own relatives, friends or collages.

 

      Please protect books taken on loan from dust, fire, oil, and water and also from the covetous eyes and stealthy hands.

Please do not replace the book or rest your arm on the book.

Do not forget that this is your library and that you are a part of this seat of learning. The book that you read today will be red by your friends and colleagues, your brothers and sisters tomorrow. let us therefore , use all these in such a way that they live well and live and thereby serve long.

 

 

 IV.   LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS:-

 

      The number of books that would be issued to different categories of members and the loan duration shall be as follows :

 

Principal :15 books for 30days

 

Teachers : 10 books for 30 days

 

Non teaching staffs: 5 books for 15 days

 

Non-teaching group D: 2 books for 15 days

 

Students: 02 books for 7 days

 

      1) The member should check the physical condition of the book before borrowing the same. Only books in sound condition should be borrowed.

 

      2) The book borrowed should be given at most care while it remains in the custody of the member. Its page should not be folded, underlined or mutilated

     

      3) The member should get checked the books or materials in their possession while leaving the entrance before being asked to do so.

     

      4) Books will also be issued to the teachers of the other JNV’s with the approval of the principal

     

      5) The members who return books after the expiry of the loan period are liable to be charged overdue charges as decided by the library committee. In case the book borrowed by any member is lost or damaged, he or she should replace the book with a fresh sound copy in latest edition .in case the title has gone out of print and copy is not available, the member would be required to deposit the cost of book as decided by the library committee.

 

      6) Books and Reading materials of the under mentioned description would not be issued:-

Reference books

Dictionaries and encyclopedias

Journals

     

      7) Every member is required to return back all the books borrowed by him\her at the end of the academic session or before leaving the vidyalaya. Whichever occurs earlier and should obtain the no dues certificate. After receiving no dues certificate only the member will be allowed to use the Library for the next session.

 

8) No person shall damage or disfigure books or any other properties of the Library.

9) Silence shall be strictly observed in the library.

10)Please come along with a membership card when you visit the library.

11) Personal belongings are not allowed in the library.

12)   Please keep the library neat and clean.

13) Please maintain silence inside the Library
